Bundesliga, Final Matchday
With all 18 Bundesliga teams in action today, three races had to be settled on the final matchday of the season.
- Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Monchengladbach were fighting for the final Champions League spot, while the loser would still have a spot in the Europa League group stage. Gladbach led on points 62-60.
- Wolfsburg and Hoffenheim were battling for the other Europa League group stage spot, while the loser would begin Europa League in the 2nd qualifying round. The teams were tied at 49 points, with Wolfsburg holding the tiebreaker on goals.
- Dusseldorf and Werder Bremen were fighting for a spot in the relegation play-off, while the loser would be outright relegated. Dusseldorf led on points 30-28.
In the end, Gladbach held on to win 2-1 over Hertha Berlin, earning a 4th-place finish over Leverkusen, who also won 1-0 over Mainz. As for Wolfsburg, they ran into the buzzsaw that is Bayern Munich, losing 4-0 while Hoffenheim’s Andre Kramaric had a career day, scoring all four goals in a 4-0 win over Dortmund.
As for the relegation battle, Dusseldorf fell short 3-0 against Union Berlin, while Werder Bremen was electric in a 6-1 shellacking over Koln. That result sent Dusseldorf down while giving Werder Bremen at least one more game as a Bundesliga side. They will enter a play-off against either Heidenheim or Hamburger SV.
FA Cup Quarterfinal
Manchester United defeated Norwich City 2-1 thanks to a late goal in extra time from Harry Maguire. Norwich City had to play the entire extra time period a man down due to a red card.
