In the 2. Bundesliga’s final matchday, FC Heidenheim and Hamburger SV were jostling for third place, which would give the occupant a two-legged playoff for promotion to the Bundesliga. Heidenheim came into the day leading on points 55-54, but suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of league leaders Arminia. Hamburger, who held the tiebreaker on goal difference, were facing mid-table Sandhausen, who easily dispatched Hamburger 5-1.
Heidenheim will face Werder Bremen in the playoff. The first leg will take place on July 2nd.
No surprises in Sunday’s FA Cup results. Arsenal led off the day by beating Sheffield United 2-1, which was followed by a 1-0 win for Chelsea over Leicester City. The day was capped with defending cup winners Manchester City blanking Newcastle United 2-0. The trio will join Manchester United in the semifinals, who defeated Norwich City on Saturday.
